Hello! My name is Tamara and I am currently in search of a full-time teaching opportunity. If you are visiting my page I am interesting in pursuing my teaching career with your school.
I was born and raised in Whitecourt, Alberta. Within my schooling there I was lucky to have many teachers who modeled teaching for me today as well as changed my life then and now. In Grade 10 I had a wonderful teacher who inspired me to pursue my teaching degree. In grade 11, I took my final classes through the outreach school and moved to Red Deer to begin Post Secondary.
Once I got to Red Deer I began my Bachelor's of Education at Red Deer College. After two years of general teaching classes I was accepted into the University of Alberta’s Collaborative Middle Years program. This program was different than others in that we worked collaboratively with a cohort of 40 students in the majority of our assignments. This allowed us to bounce ideas off each other and mature our own teaching practice. This program was very helpful in preparing me for the realities of teaching.
My first student teaching position was at Glendale Middle School with grade 6 and 8 students teaching Social Studies, Language Arts and Health. Also, while at this school I was able to help coach the Grade 8 volleyball team. Coaching allowed me to create more meaningful relationships with the girls I was teaching in my classroom. My second practicum was at Lacombe Outreach School in their Junior High Program teaching Grades 7-9 in all subject areas. This practicum truly showed me the importance of building relationships with your students as well as differentiating your instruction to best meet the student’s needs. Both practicum experiences have been exceptional learning opportunities in transition to becoming a teacher.
Today I am substitute teaching in the Red Deer Public, Wolf Creek and Chinooks Edge School divisions. By subbing I have been able to gain more experience with a wider range of grades and different subjects. It also has allowed me to be subjected to other teacher’s practices in which I have learnt and grown from.
